We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Associate Research Scientist.
The Wong laboratory is a translational oncology laboratory at the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center at New York University School of Medicine, whose goal is to improve the outcomes of lung cancer patients. The lab focuses on advancing the understanding of genetic and tumor immune alterations involved in lung tumorigenesis and pathogenesis. The Wong laboratory has been instrumental evolving lung cancer into a genetically stratified disease and changing how lung cancer patients are treated. The laboratory has pioneered generating and utilizing genetically engineered mouse lung cancer models to validate oncogenic drivers and test novel therapeutics against specific genetic oncogenic drivers. These pre-clinical models are now being used to lead the next revolution in lung cancer treatment through the combined assessment of genetics and tumor immunology. The Wong laboratory is highly collaborative and works with numerous premier academic investigators and pharmaceutical companies to discover and delineate the clinical path for novel therapeutic agents.
Working with leading academic clinicians and basic scientists as well as scientists from premier biotech and pharmaceutical companies, the successful candidate will conduct groundbreaking work to elucidate fundamental understanding of the molecular underpinnings of lung cancer.
The successful candidate will do pioneering work on the interplay of genetics, tumor immune infiltrate, and therapeutics in pre-clinical lung cancer models with the ultimate goal of developing rational treatment hypotheses to be tested in the clinic.
In addition, this scientist will have the opportunity to work with industrial (pharma and biotech) partners on the development of next generation lung cancer therapies.
This work will generate understanding of drug mechanisms of action and development of novel treatments/combinations, novel biomarkers, and identify new targets for novel therapeutics.
The successful candidate will also effectively communicate their work by writing manuscripts and successfully publishing their results in premier journals.
May participate in writing grant proposals and seek grant funding from external sources in support of their independent research projects with consent of the PI and the Department Chair.
To qualify you must have a A Ph.D. in cancer biology, immunology or biological sciences
Experience with molecular biology, genomic analysis, biochemistry & cell biology

Ideally seeking recent PhD graduate or PhD with limited post-doc or industry experience looking to build a career in clinical/translational immune-oncology field
Candidate must contribute significantly at the bench and also demonstrate aptitude in organization aspects such as managing laboratory technicians and collaborating with clinical staff and industry/biotech
High level of organization and attention to detail a must
Proven track record in the field of Immunology/tumor immunology and/or oncology with relevant publications
Experience with in vivo syngeneic mouse tumor models
Experience with multi-color flow cytometry (10-color, familiarity with BD flow cytometers)
Experience with 2D and 3D cell culture
Experience in the isolation and characterization of immune cells from primary human and mouse tissues
Experience with ex-vivo and in vitro functional assays utilizing immune cells a plus
Experience with project management/management of small groups
