Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a lab technician for the Department of Animal Sciences, Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Will work in the newly established laboratory focusing on the role of RNA modifications in proteome diversity of the male germ cell. The position will involve active research, laboratory maintenance, and student training responsibilities, including:
Mouse colony management (breeding, weaning, sample collection, and PCR genotyping).
Molecular biology experiments (DNA and RNAPCR and cloning based assays, protein analysis), immunostaining, microscopy, tissue collection.
Training undergraduate and graduate student for basic laboratory techniques.
Under the immediate guidance and direction of a senior technician or other supervisor, provides routine technical support relative to scientific research work or projects of a laboratory and/or teaching program.
Collects and completes basic preparation of samples and specimens.
Performs standard and repetitive physical, chemical, and biological tests on materials, substances, and/or living subjects. Prepares media, substances, solutions, and reagents and performs related duties as required.
Home Location Campus: Cook (RU-New Brunswick)
Preference of a Bachelor's Degree in biology or equivalent with coursework completed in the relevant science area(s) and one year of research study experience. An equivalent amount of college-level study in an appropriate science curriculum may be substituted for the experience. Formal training in mouse husbandry techniques including sample collection (blood and tissue). Formal education in mouse colony management, with a focus on complex genetic models. Working understanding of male germ cell biology and histological evaluation. Prior experience in all of the following: molecular biology (RNA analysis, PCR, cloning, protein analysis), mouse colony management, genetics, spermatogenesis. Experience training high school, undergraduate, or graduate students basic laboratory technique. Strong organizational and time management skills. Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires a valid driver's license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers' Defensive Driving Course.

Education/experience in biology or related field. Moderate work hour flexibility (occasional weekend or evening work). Start date will be no sooner than early July. This is a Grant Funded position.
