Individual will assist the Principle Investigator in developing assays, protocols, and technology to investigate fundamental mechanisms in neurodevelopment using human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) based model systems and primary rodent neuronal cell cultures. Incumbent will independently perform a wide variety of standard repetitive procedures such as: stem cell culture and differentiation, primary neuronal cell culture, cell transfection using cDNAs and viruses, basic transmitted and fluorescence light microscopy, DNA cloning, plasmid preparations and gel electrophoresis; transfections using cDNA plasmids and viral delivery methods, purification and characterization of proteins using immunoprecipitation, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting; assays of protein localization using confocal microscopy, time lapse microscopy, and imaging software. Independently optimize assays, analyze data, present findings, and develop new protocols. Additionally, individual will oversee general laboratory maintenance.
Musts be willing to work with human induced pluripotent stem cells.
Must be willing to work with and euthanize rats and mice.
Must be willing to periodically work evenings and weekends if necessary for experiments.

Independent experimental experience to perform immunological techniques (such as immunoflourescence and immunoblotting).
Demonstrated experience to perform in standard cell biology and molecular biological laboratory procedures such as DNA cloning, gel electrophoresis (including knowledge of SDSPAGE, and Coomassie Blue Staining), PCR, Western Blotting, and Southern Blotting, cell culture and transfections, protein assays and purification, transfections/transformations.
Strong demonstrated skill and knowledge of cell culture techniques and experience working with sterile equipment and supplies.
Experience and knowledge to perform mathematical calculations.
Extensive experience and knowledge to independently perform various biochemical laboratory techniques including pipetting, weighing, operating pH meters, centrifugation, and filtration.
Extensive experience and knowledge to operate lab equipment such as spectrophotometer, centrifuges, phase, and fluorescence microscopes, and other standard laboratory equipment.
Strong theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of biology, molecular biology, and cell biology attained through a Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field and laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience.
Strong demonstrated ability to optimize protocols and develop new protocols
Proven knowledge and ability to perform research independently
Demonstrated experience with scientific library databases such as PubMed to locate journal articles electronically and in print.
Experience working with MS Office programs, including filemaker, word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics software; willingness and ability to update and increase Mac/PC skills and knowledge as needed.
Knowledge and ability to purchase lab supplies and equipment with the ability to proactively and appropriately facilitate the maintenance of all lab supplies, equipment, and computers including microscopes and supplies for cell culture room.
Demonstrated successful, positive interpersonal oral and written communication skills using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse personalities and situations. Skills to interact effectively with faculty, academics, students, and staff including those of diverse ethnicity, culture, and foreign nationalities.
Demonstrated ability to follow established lab protocols and lab procedures.
Proven ability to independently prioritize, follow through on tasks, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills including ability to keep clear and accurate records, follow written and oral protocols, and give oral presentations on the progress of research.
