Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Child Health Institute of New Jersey at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the RTS V will conduct specialized immunology, human genetics, biochemistry and cell biology research. In addition, the RTS V will assist in managing and coordinating the lab, train and instruct students and personnel; compile data and maintain detailed records experiments; assist the PI in preparing grant applications; and participate in weekly research meetings and group discussions.
Carries out the preparation of samples for analysis by 7-10 parameter FACS; analysis of samples utilizing multi-laser BD LSRII; analysis of results with FlowJo FACS analysis software; multi-parameter cell-sorting experiments; and staining of mammalian cells and analysis by confocal microscopy.
Assists in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordination of instrumentation and experimental approaches in support of CHI research.
Evaluates existing procedures and proposes modifications or changes in order to keep the methodology and procedures current.
Submits purchase recommendations, to his/her supervisor, of equipment and supplies.
Works collaboratively and independently with laboratories and researchers within CHI and Rutgers.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Home Location Campus: Downtown New Brunswick

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have working knowledge of all aspects of working with mouse models including specialized genotyping, breeding and handling.
Working knowledge of basic biochemical assays including western blotting, immunoprecipitation and column chromatography required.
Working knowledge of basic molecular biological techniques (PCR, cloning, DNA sequence analysis) also required.
Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools.
Must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
