The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Research Specialist.
The Research Specialist will be responsible for creating and maintaining basic lab databases, research design and execution and mouse colony care. The Research Specialist will provide oversight and support to other researchers in the laboratory with ongoing experiments. The Research Specialist will be expected to participate and contribute to regular lab meetings, abstract, manuscript and proposal preparation, and internal/external meetings, seminars, conferences, and retreats.
A Bachelor's degree in related field plus 2-3 years of professional experience is required. Basic Skills in IRB and grant preparation as well as experience in mouse genetic work, mammalian cell curltur, RNA and protein isolation from tissue and cultured cells, gene delivery (viral and non-viral), histology, immunohistochemistry, phase contrast microscopy, and fluorescence microscopy is required.
Additionally, experience in cancer biology and experimental methods as well as bio imaging techniques is highly advantageous. Familiarity with computer and common software packages (Microsoft Office, SYSTAT, Sigma Plot, Matlab) is expected.
