The Research Technologist 2 participates in design and execution of research lab projects. This role conducts experimental tests and procedures and processes and analyzes data. This role reviews and revises existing research methodologies and may develop new methodologies, mathematical and/or computer models for predicting data. This role may ensure overall lab compliance with all associated rules and regulations. Laboratory at the research interface with clinical programs in cardiac biorepository, clinical cryobanking, and cardiac cell characterization.

Following overall research objectives, independently designs, plans, conducts and troubleshoots experiments.
Evaluates protocols and data obtained from groups of experiments and recommends changes to processes, procedures and techniques to improve quality and validity of results based upon overall project objectives.
Using an advanced level of skill, completing the following tasks:
DNA, RNA, Protein isolation,
Cell culture, cell isolation
Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
Observes experiments, collects, records, summarizes, analyzes and interprets research data.
Collates relevant mathematical results.
Draws scientific conclusions.
Orders and/or maintains inventory of reagent, mice and/or lab supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience required; OR
Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 year lab/bench or other relevant experience.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Strong knowledge and skill with mammalian cell culture and tissue dissociation.
Skill with optimizing and executing RNA and protein isolation and detection, as well as functionally independent with immunostaining and fluorescent microscopy.
Able to work independently and collaboratively without daily direction or oversight.
Internally motivated without overt reliance upon external redirection and external reinforcement
Honest, self-critical, and analytically critical of data to ensure quality and transparent results.
Motivated to grow academically by incorporating the literature and protocols into best practice.
Must be very organized, meticulous, and motivated to accomplish tasks to advance the agenda.
Skill with simple database management for laboratory reagents, repository and freezer stocks.
Experience and facile with Microsoft Word/PowerPoint, skill navigating PC and/or Mac platform.
Comfortable generating presentations to share findings, comfortable with small group public speaking.
Excellent communication skills and practices politically sensitive closed-loop communication.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Masters degree or higher in a relevant biomedical sciences.
3-5 years of experience in a cell-biology based laboratory.
Experience in a cardiovascular-topic related laboratory
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Experience with handling and manipulating stem cells, progenitors, and/or iPSC
Academic interest in congenital heart disease, heart failure, and regenerative medicine.
Desire to contribute to publications and grants.
Experience with and comfort using EndNote or Papers to handle references.
Willingness in handling and incorporating murine models if indicated by the science.
