The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of Research Specialist in stem cell bioinformatics, under the direction of Professor Camilla Forsberg. Applicants with a strong desire to contribute to stem cell research focused on hematopoietic stem cell function are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate, regardless of rank, will be expected to contribute to the research endeavors of members of the laboratory by providing guidance on computational aspects of projects pre- and post experimentation; by assisting with analysis and interpretation of published data; and by enhancing trainees' understanding and abilities in computational biology. Candidates of Associate or Full Specialist rank will additionally be expected to develop independent research projects by conceiving, planning, and performing computational analyses of in-house and published data. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a team are essential at all ranks. UCSC is a vibrant research community with state-of-the art facilities for research focused on stem cells, genomics, cancer, sequencing technologies, RNA biology, developmental biology, epigenetics, and related fields. RANK: Junior, Assistant, Associate, or Full Specialist, determined by rank qualifications (see rank qualifications) and experience
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS in Bioinformatics or related field with 1 year of post-baccalaureate research experience in bioinformatics of stem cells or related biological system
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: MS in Bioinformatics or related field with 1 year of post-baccalaureate training in bioinformatics of stem cells or related biological system, or PhD in Bioinformatics or Stem Cell Biology or related fields, with documented expertise in the non-degree field; and/or expertise in next generation sequencing approaches including genome, epigenome, or transcriptome design and analysis; and/or experience with statistical analysis of biological data; and/or ability to implement existing analysis pipelines; and/or experience with stem cell research, in particular hematopoiesis and understanding of cellular hierarchies.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Initial funding for this position is for one year, with possible reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment, a review to assess performance will be conducted. In addition, reappointment is contingent upon availability of funding.
