DUTIES:The Professor and Chair of Cell Biology will lead a faculty with diverse research interests and significant educational responsibilities, and s/he must be dedicated to promoting increased interdisciplinary collaborations and extramural research funding.The Downstate Department of Cell Biology comprises 31 primary faculty plus an additional seven clinical faculty with secondary appointments whose research is well integrated into the department programs. Department faculty are divided into four focal groups: Metabolism, Diabetes, and the Cardiovascular/Pulmonary System; Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer; Sensory Organ Development and Pathophysiology; and Medical Education/Gross Anatomy. Faculty are responsible for delivering pre-clinical (Foundation) training in the College of Medicine, and many have joint appointments in the School of Graduate Studies so as to mentor and train doctoral candidates.Coincident to the awarding of an Empire Innovation Fund grant to Downstate to support recruitment of senior scholars conducting research in genomics, Chair candidates with complementary research interests in genomics, population genetics, molecular genetics, and/or epigenetics will be preferred. Significant emphasis will be placed on the Chair recruiting for and promoting research in genomics and developing educational opportunities including new graduate-level curricula.
