The University of California invites applications for a position in the Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology under the direction of Professor Lindsay Hinck. The candidate will participate in research on mammary gland development and cancer. Duties will include genotyping, tissue collection, histology and immunohistochemistry, cell culture, and basic protein and molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, subcloning, recombinant protein expression, and Western blot.
RANK: Junior - Associate Specialist, determined by qualifications and experience (see rank qualifications)
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: B.A. or B.S. degree (or foreign equivalent) in cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology or other relevant field, and at least one year of previous laboratory research experience in molecular biology techniques including recombinant DNA/PCR and protein techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with murine tissue, cell culture and cell analysis by fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) and qPCR; biochemical techniques such as protein purification, immunodetection, and cell immunostaining; good organizational, time management, and problem solving skills; the ability to perform tasks in an organized manner, work accurately, meet deadlines and communicate results. The candidate must be willing to work as an integral member of a research team and have strong communication skills.
For Associate Specialist rank, a M.S. or M.A. degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field or 3 years post-baccalaureate molecular biology research experience, and a demonstrated record of one or more peer-reviewed publications.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Initial appointment is for one year (full or part-time available), with potential reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment, a review to assess performance will be conducted. In addition, reappointment is contingent upon availability of funding.
