The Department of Anatomy is seeking a bright, highly motivated, recent college graduate (within 3 years) with a background in the biological sciences, research experience and an interest in the field of angiogenesis and vascular biology in inflammation and cancer. The postgraduate researcher will be responsible for ordering mice and reagents, caring for animals, preparing buffers and general laboratory upkeep, writing experimental protocols, and administering drugs to mice, as well as performing surgery, removing and processing tissues, making morphometric measurements, and analyzing results. After a training period, you will perform experiments, including the use of mouse models of cancer or chronic inflammation, and perform experiments with tissues that are analyzed by a variety of immunofluorescence methods using light, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy and other methods; and perform other duties as assigned. This is an exciting opportunity for recent college graduates whose career goals is to continue their education in medical school or graduate school and who want to gain hands-on research experience at a world-class institution.
Required Qualifications • Bachelor degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field • Prior research and work experience related to inflammation and cancer; and college-level science and math courses completed • Laboratory research experience, including working with mice and writing experimental protocols • Ability to use/familiar with using PC and Mac computers • Oral and written proficiency in English • Demonstrated plans to apply to graduate and medical school and/or career objective in pursuing a MD, PhD or both • Ability to work in excess of 8 hours days and occasionally on weekend • Ability to be self-motivated, knows how to prioritize, enjoys learning, interacts well with persons of different backgrounds, and can manage occasional inevitable technical setbacks • Able to begin work in December 2016/ January 2017
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, ImageJ, Prism and EndNote
