A postdoctoral research position is available immediately in Dr. Scott Wongs laboratory for a highly motivated candidate to study non-coding RNA functions in a non-human primate model of gamma-herpesvirus-associated cancers. This position will also work in close collaboration with Dr. Rebecca Skalskys lab to identify and characterize targets of NHP g-herpesvirus microRNAs. Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. and should have expertise in virology and one or more of the following areas: molecular/cell biology, genetics, cancer biology, and/or computational biology/bioinformatics/NGS data analyses. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing experiments in the laboratory including cell culture, transfections, nucleic acid and protein extraction, immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting, PCR, molecular cloning and mutagenesis, and the use of next-gen sequencing platforms as well as performing data analysis resulting from experiments, assisting in manuscript preparation and data presentation.
PhD in molecular biology/genetics/immunology/cell biology.
Working knowledge of virology, molecular biology, and biochemical techniques, backed by strong publication record.
Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team-Must be proficient with computers (Mac and PC).
Ability to work with human and non-human primate blood and tissue samples and cell lines.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new technologies.
PhD or within three months of graduation.
Motivated and committed to academic biomedical research.
Experience with non-human primate models.
Demonstrated expertise using next-gen sequencing platforms.
Bioinformatics expertise using sequence alignment tools, R, DAVID, and experience working with command-line tools as well as working knowledge of Excel, GraphPad Prism, and PowerPoint.
