The Vaisse lab is seeking an Associate Specialist. The area of specialization entails molecular biology, cell biology, cellular biochemistry. Incumbent will be expected to develop and apply specific protocols for the study of central regulation of energy homeostasis. This will include monitoring and planning mouse husbandry based on a strong understanding of mouse genetics, independently planning and performing molecular and cellular biology experiments. The incumbent will also participate in general lab duties, including but not limited to ordering of supplies and administrative activities. Administrative activities will include independently writing and submitting research protocols for BUA/RUA/IACUC/CHR and approval. Initiative to work independently and efficiently is expected. Finally, incumbent will serve as co-manager of the mouse metabolism core.
Requirements: • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank at minimum must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization. Appointees at the Associate level must have significant record of academic accomplishment including published or in-press publication, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service. Additionally, appointees at the Associate level will provide considerable independence in planning and execution of research. • Specialized teaching experience in biochemistry and cell biology. • Expertise in mouse husbandry and mouse genetics. • Strong organizational and communication skills. • Demonstrate effective use of laboratory instruments and their maintenance. • 5 years’ experience in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, PCR, Protein Biochemistry, Cell Culture, Cell Imaging, Flow Cytometry
Preferred Qualifications: • Independent specialized research • Management experience • Post-graduate training in human molecular genetics and cellular biology
