The Osher Center for Integrative Medicine is now recruiting for an Associate Specialist. Areas of specialization/responsibilities include:
• Molecular Biology Experiments - o The incumbent shall be responsible for the generation and storage of cDNA clones, generating RNA transcripts, dsRNA etc. Duties will include the generation of cDNAs and mutant cDNAs using PCR methods. The incumbent will ensure that all such reagents are appropriately sequenced and stored. • Histological Analysis - o The incumbent will be responsible for tissue sectioning, staining, and immunohistochemical analysis. • Animal Experimentation - o The incumbent will be responsible for collecting body weights and food intake for all experimental animals. Once the experiments has been conducted by the PI or the post doctoral fellows in the laboratory, the incumbent will be responsible for collecting and sectioning the tissues as described above. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring animals during the course of the procedures. • Protocols - o The incumbent shall ensure that up-to-date and accurate protocols are maintained for all routine experimental procedures. • Supplies - o The incumbent shall be responsible for ensuring that there are sufficient supplies of all reagents and consumable materials.
Required qualifications: A MS or equivalent degree, or 5-10 years of relevant experience. Problem solving skills and ability to work independently. Working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, and powerpoint. Ability to interpret data and make graphs. Experience in handling rodents, cell culture (including primary cells) and basic molecular and cell biology techniques.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
