The Research Study Technician will use a variety of molecular, cell biology and biochemical techniques to provide research support directly to and under the guidance of the Principle Investigator. The research support component will constitute approximately 50% of the effort. Another part of the duties will be ordering lab supplies, maintaining equipment, communicating with vendors and facilities, and supervising lab assistants (50% effort). Theoretical and practical training will be provided as necessary, but prior research experience is mandatory. Individuals considering future graduate or medical careers may be afforded an opportunity to pursue independent research projects potentially leading to scientific publications. Experimental Laboratory Support: Growing and harvesting bacteria and cell cultures, Molecular cloning, Preparing plasmid DNA and restriction digests, Cell culture maintenance and transfections, Agarose and acrylamide gel electrophoresis, DNA and RNA extraction, Polymerase chain reaction and sequencing, Protein purification, sample preparation, library preparation for RNA-seq and other experiments as directed by the PI. General laboratory support: Maintaining the laboratory in good working order, communicating with vendors and facilities, ordering supplies and maintaining records, other duties as directed by the PI.
This is a grant funded position.
Salary: Grade 24
1-3 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in molecular, cell biology or biochemistry required. Practical experience in a molecular biology or related disciplines research laboratory is required.
